Area Attractions Near New Braunfels, TX

New Braunfels is a charming Texas town with roots from its German founder, Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels. German immigrants settled the city in 1845, and much from that culture can be seen today. From street signs to the annual Wurstfest, New Braunfels blends Texas character with German heritage. With a booming economy, this quaint city is home to a population of over 70,000.

A popular destination in summer, New Braunfels has cold artesian springs that rise to the Comal River, which runs the length of the city. In addition to the river, New Braunfels is home to the original Schlitterbahn Waterpark.

New Braunfels is also home to the historic district of Gruene. A premier attraction for visitors, many of the buildings are beautifully preserved and authentic from the original settlers. There you’ll find many shops, restaurants, inns, and Gruene Hall, a must-see true Texas dance hall virtually untouched since it was first built.

New Braunfels is located 25 minutes north of San Antonio, and an hour south of Austin.
